A bright five-pointed star with a cheddar-coloured rim, a yellow body and a pale yellow centre that makes it look lit from inside, plus a few white sparkles in the corners. The large star fills a 29x29 board and makes a good flat tree topper; the small 15x15 star is below for ornaments, gift tags or a garland. Both use only three or four colours, so they are quick to sort and easy for beginners.

Variations
Small star (15x15)
A 15x15 version with the same three yellows; it needs fewer than a hundred beads.
Christmas Star – Small star (15x15) – 15×15, 3 colors, 72 beads. Each symbol marks one bead; bold lines every 5 pegs.
The two lower points end in single beads. Iron them a little longer and press gently with a book while they cool so the tips stay flat.
To use it as a tree topper, glue a cardboard tube or a clothes peg to the back of the lower centre.
The white sparkles are separate from the star. Leave them out, or fuse them as tiny extra pieces to glue around the star on a card.
For a garland, make several small stars in yellow and silver and thread them through the hole of one tip bead.
